Biography

Context of Now

My name is Nathaniel Carroll. Born in 1999, in Austin, TX. I grew up in a small town called Taylor, TX, where I attended elementary and middle school. As a teen, I attended a private school, learning the usual curriculum, but opting to learn Mandarin over Spanish. I went to college at the University of Texas at Tyler, where I majored in IT with a focus on Cyber Security and a double minor in mathematics and entrepreneurship.

Over the years I have built a broad technical skillset, with backgrounds in residential maintenance, agriculture, programming, engineering, and ecology.

Interests and Hobbies

I am a fan of traveling and experiencing new cultures and cuisines. Hobbies of mine include computing and outdoor activities, with specific interests in nuclear energy research and self-sustaining practices.

Purpose Statement
This site is a "living resume" — I update it as I pick up new trades or skills. For more detail, reach out from the home page.

Semiconductors

Tokyo Electron

I have worked at Tokyo Electron since 2022 on ALD and CVD deposition systems. I started as a Start-Up (installation) engineer, traveling across the U.S. and to the EU to install and commission tools to each customer's specification. Since January 2026 I have been a Technical Support Engineer — the in-fab escalation point that keeps those tools running, using gas-flow calculations and equipment data to review engineering specs and catch documentation errors.

GrowQuarium

Hardware

A controller for a small desktop aquaponics tank, built from scratch — circuit boards designed across three KiCad revisions and a 3D-printed enclosure.

Firmware

Raspberry Pi firmware in Python: a self-contained Wi-Fi setup portal that briefly drops its own hotspot to verify your home network, pump scheduling, and water-temperature logging to a local database with a live Flask dashboard — all shipped as a custom Raspberry Pi OS image.

Status

A working prototype. Water-temperature monitoring and pump control run today; more sensors and full on-hardware validation are in progress.

Homelab

Virtualization & Services

A Proxmox host runs Jellyfin with Intel GPU hardware transcoding, alongside a Windows VM with dedicated-GPU passthrough that streams low-latency cloud gaming to a thin client over Sunshine/Moonlight — my daily driver.

Network

An OPNsense firewall on a fanless Intel N100 handles routing, DNS, and DHCP, with a WireGuard VPN for remote access (carrier-grade NAT is the current blocker — diagnosed, not yet worked around).

Storage & Power

SMB network shares, UPS-backed power, and networked 3D printers — the same printers that produce the GrowQuarium enclosure parts.

Automation & ML

Web Automation

Selenium scripts for data collection and form automation.

Machine Learning

A JSON-driven chatbot built with TensorFlow and PyTorch.

Deep Learning

A model that predicts heart disease from EKG data, trained on a Kaggle dataset.

Ventures

Opening Works Gallery

Built ERC-721/1155 smart contracts for an NFT marketplace and curated the gallery's digital artwork.

Earlier Work

Stiles Farm Foundation

Through 2021 I managed cattle and maintained the facilities — plumbing, networking, and heavy and light machinery. I also set up an aquaponics system used to teach local students, which planted the seed for GrowQuarium.

Mallard Run Apartment Complex

About seven years, from high school into college — apartment renovations, tenant work orders, and general maintenance.
